Dr. Danny Kaplan specializes in the anthropology of emotions through the prism of friendship and nationalism. He has conducted extensive field research in Israel focusing on masculinity, militarism and commemoration. He has published articles and books on fraternal friendship, identification with missing soldiers, and theories of nationalism, among them:
The Men We Loved: Male Friendship and Nationalism in Israeli Culture (Berghahn Books 2006). He also studies mechanisms of solidarity in voluntary organizations, mass media and popular music. Dr. Kaplan directs the Men Studies track at the Gender Program.
